June 28th: Prelude
28th June 1942: Howling winds, icy spray short heavy seas. Even fully laden at 8 knots the Navarino is plunging and rolling. Been like this since we set off 2 days ago. Light is beautiful, think we must be in the eye. Hope it doesn’t bring the spotter planes, keeping a good eye out, not that there’s a lot this popgun will do against them?
