Fighting For Crumbs

https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=VL6WiFwXJBA As part of our recent exhibition, we made a video. It's always unerving seeing - or more accurately hearing - yourself as others do, but nonetheless really pleased with the result, it encapsulates the underlying theme of the show very effectively. Hope you can find the time to watch 🙂

Fighting For Crumbs

Another project I have been involved in is coming to fruition. Fighting For Crumbs (Art in the shadow of neo-liberal Britain) is a group exhibition featuring video, installation, 3D wall art, crafted art, paintings, photography, poetry and performance. The main exhibition is taking place in Sheffield, and ties in to an exhibition of John Ledgers … Continue reading Fighting For Crumbs

Collateral Damage

The closure of Hatfield Colliery two weeks ago, and that of Thoresby Colliery on the 10th July leaves one deep pit open in the UK, Kenningley, which is due to close by the end of the year. The arguments for and against coal as a source of energy are complex, but whatever its future, in … Continue reading Collateral Damage

We are the Walrus

We are the Walrus is a continuation of the industrial series, and an exploration into semi-abstraction. The development of this piece was interesting, as the original sketches were made on my new Ipad using ArtRage. I have always been happy to embrace new technology when I feel it has passed beyond the stage of glorified … Continue reading We are the Walrus

MAYDAY! MAYDAY! ENGLAND & WALES LAND GRAB… OF LAND THAT BELONGS TO EVERYONE… SPREAD THE WORD, SOUND THE ALARM… HOUSE OF LORDS DEBATE, WEDNESDAY JUNE 18

Cakes O’bread

I don’t normally re blog, but thought this was important enough to share. I urge you to take the time to read it, ponder, and do something, even if it’s only signing the petition. The painting is of Cakes O’bread, above Derwentwater. It’s on access land that others fought for my right to roam on, let’s not let go of their victory by allowing the biggest potential theft of public assets since the enclosures. Cheers. John

DEBATE (SECOND READING) IN HOUSE OF LORDS THIS WEDNESDAY (JUNE 18)
For all those sent this who don’t know me… I am secretary of Hands Off Our Forest, a pressure group dedicated to keeping the Forest of Dean and other public woodlands in public ownership. At our meeting this week, we decided we must press for an exemption for the Public Forest Estate (that is, all those woodlands in England that are owned by all of us, and managed by the Forestry Commission) within the Infrastructure Bill…
You may recall that we kicked up quite a fuss in 2010/11 over plans for the forest sell-off, and the law which would have made it possible, the Public Bodies Bill. Our campaign, in association…

Looking for work in Never-Neverland

You hear a lot about unemployment these days, or more accurately, you hear a lot about the unemployed. Much political capital is being made by all of the major UK political parties about curtailing the luxurious lifestyles of that vast group of adults who are un or under-employed. A long running campaign has exhorted the … Continue reading Looking for work in Never-Neverland

Please support your local artists and arts businesses, you’ll miss them when they’re gone.

Monday morning, two and a half weeks to my next exhibition. I've selected the paintings I'll be taking, a total of 23, from which I expect to hang 15, given the space available. I've produced the posters and fliers, and just completed the press release. I've dropped the publicity materials off at the gallery, my … Continue reading Please support your local artists and arts businesses, you’ll miss them when they’re gone.
